Cool! Oh, and barto, you made me look up Cruisin to see what you were talking about. I've now seen the dancing scene. You owe me, man!

All four of these actors have played the same role. Name the role and the context in which each played it:

1- Michael Gough became the voice of Zorro in a Warner Bros. cartoon series.
2- George Hamilton: Zorro, the Gay Blade (1981)
3- ??????????
4- Alain Delon: Zorro 1975 (I saw this one, I liked it A LOT as a child, don't know how it would be now)

That's three out of four! I'm with you on the Delon Zorro as well -- definitely one of my favorite versions, and you can get the only (almost?) complete version of the film via Amazon.fr (ALL the other versions have MAJOR cuts that make the story incomprehensible and awful). I've read that Martin Campbell hated the film (undoubtedly saw a cut version), but loved Delon, so much that he was the first choice to play Don Diego in Mask of Zorro -- but by then he'd retired to become a cosmetics magnate, so the role went to Hopkins instead.

http://www.sergioleonardi.com/zorro/foto/delon1.jpg

It's got a bit of a split personality, especially in the full version -- it's a kids' movie that's also surprisingly gritty and violent in spots. Directed by Sergio Leone's cinematographer, if I remember right.

It's also on my shortlist for post-KOTCS edits; most of what I want to do is replace the theme song, which is incredibly catchy, but also incredibly annoying.

Hein: right about Lone Ranger, but it's not Liotta (though there's a resemblance). Who is best known for playing that role, and where did he play Zorro?

hebrides
04-01-2010, 01:07 AM
OK, been a while, and no one's weighed in on who the Lone Ranger is...is it possible that I'm the only one who remembers Clayton Moore? I used to watch The Lone Ranger in reruns at my grandfather's house.

Anyway, he played Zorro (really, Zorro's grandson picking up the mantle -- kind of ironic, in a way, since The Green Hornet was supposed to be The Lone Ranger's grandson) in the Republic serial Ghost of Zorro.

With three out of four, and on the first try, I say TMBTM gets the next one :)

Pay close attention to this one. It's a guy who very carefully inches his way out onto a rope suspended over a gorge so that he can shoot an arrow -- and somehow the screenwriter/director/whomever neglected to think that the whole point of an arrow is to be a projectile, i.e. something that can cross large distances...

Nope and nope, Barto and TMBTM. You're zeroing in on the time period and the genre, though. As cheesy as those may have been, this was much, much worse (seriously -- one shot has a closeup of a scimitar that plainly seems to be made of cardboard!). It featured a "new kind" of martial art that they came up with solely for the film because its star was a famous former gymnast (and very, very short). He's also known for rocking the Macgyver mullet. Any thoughts?

Okay I've decided to post a different pop question, you have two choices on how to answer, you can either tell me:

What movie this is?

OR

What are they eating?
(Needs to be specific to get it, i will let you know if you are specific enough)

I was wondering for my first post if i should go easy or hard?

This might fall in between, it all depends on how many movies us forum members have seen?

Well here goes what movie is this from?

Funny you should say that...no, it's not, though I did consider it for a shot for a new opening at one point.

Hints:

1. It's recent (post-2000).

2. It features a lot of weapons and military stuff, but a surprisingly low amount of actual fighting. More of a character piece/very dark comedy from a fairly unlikely source.

As a slight further hint, only one of the actors in the montage looks anything like this in the film.

hebrides
06-09-2010, 11:17 PM
Hmmm, still no takers...time for another hint: the film flashes back and forth between the 80s and the 60s, and three of the four actors play the same characters in both time periods (the other is present only in the 80s). It's not a musical, but music is a very big component of the story. And TMBTM's question made me think of it, so that may be a clue to the type of movie it is too...

I don't recall having watched a movie with Ellen Barkin and Joe Pantoliano.

Perhaps not, but they were in a movie together in the 80s. That's the first two actors down; anyone know who the other two are? Picture the third sans beard, and the fourth younger and tougher-looking.

Each probably deserved a bigger career than he's gotten, though the third has had a more varied and successful résumé than the fourth -- perhaps ironic, since the fourth was the leader of the band in the movie, while the third had (essentially) the Ray Manzarek role.

Also, and this might be a big hint if you know the movie, the fourth actor did some of the all-time best lip-syncing in the film, and the guy they got to record his vocals sounded so much like you'd expect from the actor's speaking voice that it was many years before I realized he didn't do his own singing. They repeated the pairing of actor and singer in the much worse and unnecessary sequel...

Right you are, boon; it's Tom Berenger.

OK, so that gives us Ellen Barkin, Joe Pantoliano, and Tom Berenger. That leaves only the fourth, who is by far the least-known of the four, though he was the one of the leads in the movie (the lead in the flashback sections).

The band he fronted in the film was based in New Jersey, and their sound was sort of a what-if Bruce Springsteen met The Doors in 1963. The lead singer/songwriter became very influenced by the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud, and he had quite a "Dark Side" (big hint).

Never realized it before today, but the lead actually looks quite a bit like a greaser version of Rimbaud...

Rimbaud, age 17:

Good guesses, but nope. No gangsters in Avatar

The film that may still be in theaters in some areas has, like Avatar, had its fair share of controversy -- not, in this case, about ripping off a different movie, but about the words and actions of a particular character.

It's The Killer, from the opening fight scene I think... haven't seen it in a long time, but it's a good one! Her eyes are blinded by being next to a fired gun? Not sure. Why is it happening? No idea, can't recall.

This is the little sister and mother of this mov*e´s main character.
