About 2 weeks ago Frantic Canadian volunteered to help out fanedit.org add reviews to the new Internet Fanedit Database portion of the site. We happily accepted his help due to having to add about 6,000 reviews. In all honesty we figured he would add reviews for a few edits then continue on his merry way.

    But no....

He had to go and add...

    WAIT FOR IT...

    2049 reviews.

    In about 2 weeks time.

He added reviews for edits S-Y, approximately 240 individual titles.

Good Canadian sir, I present to you a poorly Photoshopped trophy

Literally years in development (ok, we're a bit slow), the staff of Fanedit.org is proud, and excited to finally make available to the fanediting community the Internet Fanedit Database (IFDB)!

You'll notice that the navigation bar for the site has been updated to include a button that takes you directly to IFDB, and over the next few days you may notice other links/navigation elements being updated, modified or even removed depending on how they've been affected by the release of IFDB.

This new system replaces the old Word Press generated fanedit listings and is a powerful resource that allows you to search the database using a multitude of criteria. It is built around a robust rating and review system and will also allow greater automation in the process of submitting new fanedits for listing and greatly enhance users' search capabilities.

Please review forum thread for additional details as well as a place to report any odd findings/glitches you may come across, we'll address them as quickly as possible.

Please explore it and perhaps discover edits you didn't even know existed!

To try and consolidate the different Rules (site and forum) and FAQ pages we've updated the General Rules page located under the "General Info" tab (renamed About This Site). We've also added an "About Us" page and an "Own the Source" page. Read them, study them, learn from them.

The second public poll is running, so please take some time to peruse the poll for Best TV-to-Movie fanedit for 2011.

These edits are a unique challenge for an editor who must look at the full body of material available from a television show and sift the various narratives and components and distill that into a coherent story. Editors must also overcome the challenges presented by episodes being written, directed, and art-directed by different people, each having the potential to create a visual or stylistic anomaly that doesn't fit when compared to other episodes.

Again, as a reminder for the first time the forum community is an integral part of the nomination process. We had a great turn-out for the Best Fanedit of 2011, so please keep that momentum going and cast a vote in the Best TV-to-Movie category!

The 4th Annual Fanedit.org Faneditor Awards are officially underway! Recognizing the best of 2011 is going to be the most exciting selection process yet. This year the first round of determining the final nominations will rest entirely in the hands of the Fanedit.org community.

While details for each category will differ slightly, the general format for selection of nominations and then final judging will be organized as follows:

The nomination process will be divided into two parts. The first will be determined by a combination of default selections (Fanedit of the Month winners as determined by public voting throughout the month) plus the top results of a separate public vote, and then depending on the category, possible wild-card nominations by the Academy.

Once the public component of the selection is done the Academy will review the first-round nominations and whittle each category down to a predetermined number of final nominations, based on the total number of 2011 edits that qualify for the category.

A that point a panel comprised of Academy members, Fanedit.org staff, and former category winners will be invited to judge any category for which they are not nominated in.

Details of the process will be announced as we get deeper and deeper into the select process, the first of which will be the public vote for nominees for Best Fanedit of 2011.

    Good luck Faneditors!
