NEW COMBINED AND MODIFIED RULES
UPDATED OCTOBER 24, 2012
In order to ensure that this site continues to thrive, the following rules must be accepted and observed by all forum members. Failure to follow the rules will result in warnings and infractions which can lead to temporary and permanent bans from the site.
If you ever have questions about any of the rules, send a PM to an Administrator or Moderator
I. OWN THE SOURCE
Fanedit.org supports the rights of the copyright holders, therefore it is the policy of fanedit.org that when commercially available sources are available, Faneditors must own a commercially available source for that material at equal or greater resolution in order for the edit to be listed on fanedit.org. Viewers who download fanedits should likewise own the source material listed when commercially available.
You must be familiar with the entire Own The Source Rule; go HERE
II. DOWNLOAD LINKS
Fanedit.org/Internet Fanedit Database does not host fanedits, faneditors are responsible for making their edits available and use a variety of methods including usenet, newsgroups, file lockers etc... Often times you can find fanedit downloading information at fanedit.info, however this site is not run or controlled by fanedit.org in any way, but it is a popular resource for locating specific edits.
Do not ask fanedit.org Administrators or Moderators for assistance with fanedit.info issues, as well do not use the Fanedit.org forums to discuss issues or problems with fanedit.info. They are 2 separate sites.
1. Do not post download links containing copyrighted material.
Fanedit.org has a strict policy against posting direct links to downloading copyrighted material of any kind or for any purpose.
This means no posting of download links to fanedits, full length movies, TV shows, video games, music, books, magazines or anything else that is copyrighted.
We take this issue very seriously. Any direct download link to copyrighted materials will result in an automatic seven (7) day Temporary Ban.
2. No download links to works in progress clips.
If you have a clip from your edit you want feedback on, upload it to a streaming site such as YouTube or Vimeo. Do not upload to a file hosting site and post the link in the forum. The link will be deleted and you will receive one (1) Infraction. This includes samples of unedited footage that you may want opinions on.
3. Do not ask for download links to fanedits outside of private messages or the “Trades and Requests” Forum.
It is acceptable to send a private message to a member of fanedit.org asking for links to downloadable fanedits. Members of fanedit.org can do what they want via private messages as fanedit.org is unable to control or monitor private messages. What is said in private messages is the responsibility of the member sending the private message, not the responsibility of fanedit.org.
This rule also applies to reviews left on The Internet Fanedit Database. Do not leave a fake review for a fanedit just so you can ask where the download links are. The review will be deleted and you will be issued a warning.
If you are having difficulty locating an edit for download after checking the resources mentioned in Part II, there is a section of the forum dedicated to trading fanedits. Go HERE
. The “Own The Source
” Rule applies to this section as well. And without a doubt, no download links are allowed to be posted in the Trades and Requests Forum
There are very specific rules about posting requests for download links in that forum:
You are only allowed to request links to fanedits available at The Internet Fanedit Database. This is akin to trading. Fanedit.org is not providing any download links. You are asking an individual member of the community to send, via private messages
, links to download a fanedit, which is protected by Fair Use. Any requests for illegal or bootlegged media will not be tolerated and will result in a temporary ban of seven (7) days for the requesting user.
How To Properly Request Download Links:
Check to see if a thread for the edit you want to download already exists in this section. If it does, read that thread to see if someone has filled the request. If so, send a private message to that user asking him for the links. Do not ask again in the same thread for links if it's already been filled.
If no thread in this section exists for the edit you want to download start a new thread asking for it. Do not bump a request thread. Thread bumps will be deleted.
And this is not a section to discuss fanedits, the threads for that are in the other subsections of the Fanedit Discussions Forum
. Request threads should also NOT turn into “How do I download this?” threads. Use Google to learn what a DLC or NZB is or how to open .rar/.zip files. Also check the Other Technical Help Forum
to see if your question has already been answered.
Simply post what edit you want to see and wait until it's fulfilled.
How To Properly Fulfill Link Requests
Post the following: "I have that edit, I can send you links." Never post the links in the forum
. Links posted in the forum will be deleted immediately and a temp ban of seven (7) days will be applied to the link poster.
4. File Hosting Availability.
It is 100% up to the editor to decide where to host their fanedits. Fanedit.org does not mandate where fanedits are uploaded to because that is not the business of the site, but the business of the individuals uploading.
The Internet Fanedit Database hosts information for all approved fanedits through the years of fanedit.org. Some of these fanedits are very old and may no longer be available. This is a sad thing, but it’s part of the facts of life. Do not get upset or discouraged if a fanedit you want to see is offline.
If a fanedit is offline, please first review the forum thread for the edit to see if the editor has posted information about this. Then check the Trades and Requests Forum
to see if anybody has already brought the issue up. If nobody has mentioned it, you are free to send a private message to the faneditor or start a new thread in the Trades and Requests Forum
Do not post things such as “Can somebody send me the links for this fanedit?” in a thread not in the Trades and Requests Forum. Posts like that will be deleted and the users will be redirected to the Trades and Requests Forum and these Rules.
Posting “This fanedit is offline” or “The links are down
“ in an edit’s discussion thread is highly discouraged. Instead of doing that, send a PM to the editor or go to the Trades and Request Forum
to see if some kind soul has reuploaded the fanedit.
III. POSTING IN THE FORUM
The foundations of any forum are quality threads. Please be sure to follow these rules when posting in the forum.
1. Starting new threads.
Titles should be descriptive and relevant to the topic being discussed. This is particularly important for those new to the forum. We are very glad to have you here, and we are happy to share our knowledge with fledgling editors. Remember, though: we can only help you if you are clear about what help you need. Before starting a new thread, use the search function to see if the topic already exists or your question has already been answered.
Please do not start new threads for every stray thought you have or cool link you come across. If you want to share something awesome with the community that’s fine, but don’t start a bunch of threads with all the most recent Movie News blog posts you read.
2. We do not tolerate bad behavior at all.
Good behavior is of the essence for our community. If you have something bad to say or need to complain or feel you were treated badly, try and put your thoughts into constructive and positive words. It works. You will see that people will not start arguments with you so easily and that the overall mood in the community is for the better.
If you fail to follow this rule you may receive a warning, your posts might get deleted and in worse and repeating cases you may even get banned. Think first, then write. Use the preview function before you submit a post and re-read again, what you wrote.
There is no room for hatred or bigotry on fanedit.org. Do not make posts which are offensive or derogatory to any ethnic or other group. This is the surest way to get yourself on the fast-track to getting banned. Check your hate at the door.
The internet is full of argumentative people and back and forth rants. We don’t want this site to be another one of those places.
Mind your language and try to not insult users. (There are a few sections in the off topic, where strong language is allowed though.)
Use proper English. Fanedit.org’s members span the globe and English is not everyone’s first language, but it is the language of this forum. In that spirit, when posting please use proper punctuation, spelling and grammar. Please organize your thoughts clearly so that everyone can understand you... essentially, don’t write like you’re a 12-year old texting her BFFOMG. spl gd plz k thx bai,,,
If you do have a serious problem and are unsure of the consequences, contact a staff member via private message (PM) first.
If you have been corrected by a staff member, try not to be stubborn. Arguing about rules publicly leads to nowhere. Constructive discussion about rules is much better than getting angry about rules.
3. Posts should be constructive.
If you post, please try and make it count. Posts consisting of nothing, but "That sounds great!" or "I am looking forward to this" or the likes, should be kept to a minimum.
If you post rubbish nonsense continuously, you are spamming the forum and will get warned for that and, in repeat cases, maybe even banned. We tolerate a lot here, but there are limits.
4. No nudity. We are a PG-13 forum.
No images nor direct links of nudity, please. The internet is full of that anyway.
5. No Pirates. No discussion of piracy whatsoever.
All posts which mention pirating material for personal use will be moderated. On a first offense the member will receive a warning. On a second offense he will receive an infraction. (See Section VI for more details.)
6. Discussing The Availability of Fanedits.
NEVER post a link in the forums to any website where you can download fanedits. And when saying where something has been uploaded, DO NOT use full URLs. Generic names are acceptable (rapidshare, mediafire, info, etc.) but please DO NOT get into discussions of download sites.
And don’t do any of t*h*i*s n*o*n*s*e*n*s*e to circumvent the rules.
Fanedit.org is not the place to download fanedits. Fanedit.org is the place to discuss fanedits. You will not find any download links to fanedits at fanedit.org. If you don’t know how to download a fanedit, read the article “Using This Site
IV. POSTING FANEDITS
As a fanedit discussion site, fanedit.org provides a listing of known fanedits which meet specific quality standards. The site does NOT host, provide, or allow the posting of direct links for downloading fanedits.
Site approved Faneditors may submit details of completed fanedits for listing in our fanedit database. Fanedit Submissions need to give details more than just “I cut 5 minutes from teh moovie”. Writing a cutlist is not a requirement, but if nobody knows what you edited they may not care to watch your edit.
Submissions must include cover art. Disc art is not a 100% requirement but is highly highly highly encouraged.
All fanedits must use legally available sources. Fanedits must not be created from illegal sources such as pirated material, or clips never intentionally released by the copyright owners. Fanedit.org will not list any fanedits which are known to contain illegal sources. If you have concerns about the sources of a fanedit, do not inquire on forum threads, please see the Own The Source Rule
or PM an Academy, Mod or Staff member with your concerns.
V. RATING FANEDITS
All ratings/reviews on The Internet Fanedit Database are moderated. This is to put quality control into fanedit reviews.
Faneditors are not allowed to rate their own fanedits. They are allowed to comment on reviews if they feel the need to.
Ratings have to be fair and should go alongside a comment explaining how you came to such a score. Lengthy or detailed reviews are not a requirement but are highly encouraged. The only time a detailed review is required is for a negative rating (see below).
When rating, please consider ALL of the following criteria:
Were the image and sound quality up to par?
Did you notice any jarring video or audio cuts? Did the fanedit flow well?
How well did the editor achieve his/her goals? Were there plot-holes created (or resolved?) Does it work?
Were you entertained by the fanedit?
It is not a requirement to rate every category for an edit, but it is highly encouraged as it gives a better overall picture of a fanedit’s quality and merit.
Any rating of 5 stars or lower
requires a clear and detailed explanation of the reasoning for such a low score because ratings lower than 5 call into question the quality of the edit. Any rating below 5 stars and without a sufficient comment will be rejected.
And be fair when rating and reviewing edits. Don’t abuse the ratings system to get back at the guy who called you a bad name or rated your fanedit a 6.
If you choose not to understand and follow the rules of this website, or any direct ruling or orders from a site administrator or moderator, you will receive the following, depending on the nature of the violation.
1. An official warning
from a site administrator or moderator. Basically telling you to straighten up, or risk receiving an infraction.
2. An infraction
. Infractions will be given to your user account, and will stay there for between 30 to 90 days, based on the type of infraction, and will then expire at the end of that time period.
Warnings are slaps on the wrist and do not go on your permanent record. Infractions expire after a certain period of time, depending on the violation. Minor infractions expire after 30 days, medium infractions expire after 60 days and serious infractions expire after 90 days.
Infractions carry the following punishments:
This is basically a second warning shot, and will have no effect on your ability to use the site and forum.
You will automatically be banned from the site and forum for 1 week. You will only be able to contact site administrators for that week.
You will automatically be banned from the site and forum for 1 month. Again, you will only be able to contact site administrators for that month.
Game over man. You will be permanently banned from the site and forum.
In serious cases you can be automatically banned from the site.
Do not fret if you receive a warning or one (1) infraction
. Just re-read the rules and straighten up and you will be fine. The best way to not get temporarily banned after receiving 1 infraction is to re-read the rules and learn from your mistakes.
If you feel that you have incorrectly received an infraction, contact reave
or another site admin or mod
, and we will review your infraction.
VII. REPORTING POSTS
If you see a post or series of posts that you feel violates any of the rules or forms of etiquette listed within the rules, please select "report this post" under the actual post(s) in question.
Please do not act as a Moderator or Administrator if you aren’t one. Do not interpret Rules for others. If someone break a rule you can PM an Administrator or use the Report Post function.
This is only to be used for reporting improper posts to an FE staff member, not for general issues or concerns you may have. Use the appropriate forum for any issue other than specific post issues, or simply contact a moderator or admin.
