building a new PC. a few questions.

anyone run a SSD as their OS/Boot disc?
prices are still high but I am entertaining the notion.
the fact that $75 will give me a 1.5TB HDD over a 30GB SDD is a tough call. as we all know, you can never have enough space. But is the performance worth the limited space?

anyone here run editing software from an SSD?
    love to hear your thoughts.

also, is 4GB RAM enough for HD editing on a 6 core 3.2GHz-3.8GHz CPU paired w/ a Radeon HD 6850 GPU? or should I bump it up to 8GB RAM?

Trying to find the sweet spot between performance and cost. I am limited to around $1400 and am already topped out, but I can always cut a few 'unnecessary features and add them on later (like a second HDD)

If you're going to get an SSD for a boot drive I'd recommend at least an 80-90GB drive minimum. I do this because I install my applications to the drive, minus games. The boot time is incredible: Windows 7 boots in about 10 sec. for me. But the reason I recommend something bigger is because you'll want to do at least some limited app installs to the SSD, those apps that load in the system tray, otherwise your OS load time slows down because the apps installed on a standard HDD slow the load time of those apps down.

Again, boot time is fast but when it comes to rendering it all depends on CPU, memory and standard HDD which I assume you'll use for your fanedits.

No need for 8GB. 4GB should be sufficient.

    Everything Thunderclap said.

I run a 60Gb SSD as my boot drive and that seems to be enough although another 30Gb would certainly be useful. Also make sure you check out the SSD read/write stats closely as some only have a write speed of 125-150MB/sec vs comapred to best part of 300mb/sec for the newer ones.

no complaints (nor any bragging). I love my new machine. Just saying that the SSD for running your OS is well worth it.
