  • Welcome to the World of FanEdits!

What are FanEdits, and why make them? FanEdits are an artform where someone takes a video source/sources and rearranges them with video editing software to create either a modified, or even radically new version of a movie.

Spence has released a new Fanedit 'The Hobbit: The Spence Edit'.

This is a 3 film in 1 edit running at 3 hours 25 minutes. This is not intended as a "book cut" but instead tries to imagine what Peter Jackson and Co. might have made if they had decided to do the story as one film.

    Spence:
"My goal is not to make the film more like Lord of the Rings in tone, but in spirit. The gag-filled action scenes that Peter Jackson has become fond of are minimized, except when appropriate. It feels more epic. The pacing is quicker. It feels more in line with those films, while also becoming even more different from them. It was an experiment in seeing just how much could be removed from this story while still making it work."

samspider3 has released a new Fanedit 'The Sensational Spider-Man'.

This Fandit combines Marc Webb's duology to show you the ultimate Spider-Man stand alone origin story. Taking just the necessary footage from the second movie, and making the necessary cuts, to give this Spider-Man story, not only a perfect closure, but to modify it in a way that it approximates the spirit and characters from the comics.

    samspider3:
"This project began as a draft last year, when I made 'The Organic Eggs Edition' and saw The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now that the Amazing Spider-Man "saga" has been cancelled, I thought of making the first Amazing Spider-Man a stand alone movie, instead of needing a sequel. For this, I wanted to stick to the comic source as much as possible."

Gatos released a new fanedit Crossing Mulberry Street
This is a short edit, 43 minutes streamlined version of Mean Streets focusing on Charlie trying to balance protecting his friends and breaking into the "family" business.

    Gatos:
"My intention with this edit was to make a more streamlined version of Mean Streets. This was originally a part of a planned project with Neglify and Dwight Fry to do a "New York Stories" compilation of shorts. This project never materialized so I decided to release my short by itself.
    Additional Notes:
There are two instances where sound drops out when a character is talking, this is inherent to the source material and not something I tried to fix."

TM2YC released a new fanedit Darkplace: Tales From The Hellmouth
This is a TV to movie fanedit of the hilarious spoof 80s Horror/Sci-Fi/Action TV show 'Garth Marengi's Darkplace' without any of the mock interviews which make up a quarter, to a third, of the runtime.

    TM2YC:
"I've presented the 6 episodes as if it was a lost 16mm film version of 'Darkplace'. Maybe Producer Dean Learner cut the TV episodes into a movie to show in one of his "Gentleman's Cinemas", in an effort to squeeze a few more quid out his investment. To further this fun idea, I've added a cinema style introduction as if it was a low-rent 1980s British cinema release. Plus there are trailers, previews, adverts, an intermission and I've even created a little tribute to a certain infamous Peter Cushing Horror movie, which I call "The Darkplace Break"."

Mikedrew87 released a new fanedit Frozen Death
This is fanedit of Cold Prey and Cold Prey 2 in one 115 minutes thrill ride feature.

    Mikedrew87:
"I liked the movies Cold Prey 1 & 2, and the fact that they follow each other in story is brilliant. So I thought "Hey", how about making them into one full feature film."

Father Merrin released a new fanedit The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - The Editor's Edition
If you're looking for the Orcs, Radagast, the love story and the council to be removed, this isnt the edit for you. But if you're looking for a toned down version of the films, this is the edit for you.

    Father Merrin:
At first I wanted to bring it back to the original structure Guillermo Del Toro had planned, but I felt ending with Bard was something of an anti-climax for a 2h30m movie. So I've used Gandalf's Dol Guldur scene to give the film a more explosive ending.

LastSurvivor released a new fanedit Friday the 13th Part V: Jason's Legacy
'Jason's Legacy' is an attempt to streamline a movie which suffers from characters who are introduced solely to be killed off straight away. The idea is to refocus the killings on the inmates of Pinehurst as much as possible. Heavy colour correction also attempts to paint the film in the same light as Joseph Zito's excellent preceding chapter, 'The Final Chapter'.

    LastSurvivor:
"I'm a huge Friday the 13th fan, but I've always had problems with Part V so I wanted to try and refocus the film and bring it more in line with how 'The Final Chapter' felt."
