Avid Releases Free Editor

If you’ve always wanted to take a crack at fanediting but felt the cost of a video editor such as Final Cut or Premiere was too much, we’ve got good news for you. You can now download Avid’s Media Composer First for free. This is a watered down version of the feature rich pro version, but to test the waters it’s definitely worth giving it a try.

Some of the restrictions in this free version are:

  • 5 bins
  • max of four video tracks
  • max of eight audio tracks
  • exports limited to Quicktime h.264 or DNxHD, which is an Avid format in 1080p60 (i.e. no 4k)

Media Composer First is available for Windows and Mac.
